Mastering the Rock to Fakie
The rock to fakie is a stylish skatepark trick where you stall the front trucks on the coping of a ramp, then roll back down in fakie (backwards). It’s a perfect transition trick for beginners progressing from the drop-in, adding flow to your skatepark sessions. The rock to fakie builds confidence on ramps and sets you up for advanced moves like the rock and roll or axle stall.

How to Rock to Fakie: Step-by-Step Tutorial
Here’s how to land a rock to fakie. Start on a mellow ramp (3–4 feet) in a skatepark, and wear a helmet and pads. Being comfortable with dropping in and riding fakie (from basic riding) helps.
- Approach the Ramp: Drop in or pump up the ramp with enough speed to reach the coping. Keep knees bent and eyes on the coping’s edge.
- Pop to the Coping: As your front wheels near the coping, lift your front foot slightly to guide the nose over the edge. Lean forward to press the front trucks onto the coping.
- Stall in the Rock: Balance with your front trucks on the coping, back wheels against the ramp’s lip, and weight centered. Hold this “rock” position briefly, keeping your body over the board.
- Roll Back Fakie: Shift your weight slightly backward to let the board tilt down the ramp. Stay balanced as you roll back in fakie (backwards), keeping knees bent.
- Ride Away: Continue riding fakie through the transition, staying low to maintain control. Pump or switch to regular stance to keep flowing.
Tips for Success:
- Practice stalling on the coping without rolling back to build confidence.
- Keep your weight centered to avoid slipping off the coping or falling forward.
- Use the Skate Tricks app’s video guides to perfect your stall timing and fakie exit.
